Abstract:

CCMPO_PARKNRIDE ~ This database contains the locations of
known State, Municipal, and Private Park & Ride Lots,
Intercept/Satelite Lots, and Proposed Lease-Lots within
Chittenden County, Northwest Vermont, as well as bordering
facilities. Facility infrastructure and location descriptions
are contained within the attributes of the database.
Additionally, this database contains approximate locations of
"Planned" and "Proposed" facilities (including historically
proposed Lease-Lots).




In their 2004 update of a 1993 consultant’s report, as well as
a 1999 study, CCMPO planners have selected, prioritized, and recommended
action steps for 14 new Park & Ride facilities in Chittenden County.




With criteria based on demand, readiness, and location, two types of
facilities have been identified for the locations: (1) Intercept/Satellite
Facilities are alternatives to on-site locations within activity centers
such as large employers and shopping areas. They are generally developed
in fringe areas of the activity centers and feature high-frequency shuttle
or transit service. In most cases, implementation funding comes from
Congressional earmarks and/or public-private ventures. (2) Suburban/Rural
Park and Ride Lots serve private vehicles, carpools, and vanpools with
low-frequency shuttle or transit service. Implementation funding generally
comes from public funding.




In addition to the 14 recommended facilities in 2004, CCMPO also encouraged
the development and expansion of facilities in areas such as Grand Isle,
St. Albans, Enosburg Falls, Waterbury, Bristol, Ferrisburgh, and Middlebury.

Purpose:

Originally developed in 2003-04 as part of the "Chittenden County
Park & Ride Facility Prioritization" effort and further utilized
for the 2009/2010 "Park & Ride Plan", this database has been
compiled for reference of any "Existing" location, "Planned"
location, or "Proposed" location of any facility in or near
Chittenden County commuter corridors.

STATUSTYPE ~ This is the flag which describes the development
status of a facility. "P" = Proposed Park & Ride Lot,
"E" = Existing Park & Ride, "PI" = Planned Intercept Lot,
"EI" = Existing Intercept Lot.




INTERCEPT LOT ~ The function of an Intercept Lot is provide a less
expensive parking alternative to on-site locations within activity
centers or the urban core area, reduce Single-Occupancy Vehicle (SOV)
use in activity centers, and transfer point from car to shuttle or transit.
Characteristics of an Intercept Lot are: Located in an Urban/activity area,
high vehicle capacity, surface or structured parking, and high frequency
shuttle/transit connections to activity centers. Funding often is
derived from Congressional earmarks and/or public private ventures.
Walk and bike access is desirable.

PARK & RIDE LOT ~ The function of an Park & Ride Lot is provide
car and vanpooling with potential for low frequency shuttle or transit
service. Characteristics of a Park & Ride Lot; Suburban or rural location,
surface lot, low to medium capacity. Private car is the dominant method
of trip collection and distribution. Implemented through public funding.
Walk and bike access is desirable.
