Abstract:

CCMPO_TM ~ This geospatial database contains
intersection points, which reference turning movement
counts conducted (as well as their respective count dates)
within Chittenden County, Vermont from
the period of 1982 through 2006.
Thus far, the items
within the attribute table of the database reference the
following; Intersecting
street names of the intersection location, inventory of
dates when
counts were conducted, Count Station ID numbers
(pertaining to a CCMPO assignment system), and a flag
for the count if it is a 12-hour count (as opposed to a
AM/PM Peak Period count)…
Turning movement counts consist of AUTO, TRUCK,
BUS, BIKES, & PEDESTRIAN data retrieved and
processed
from Traffic Count Boards as well as those from tally sheets
utilised during CCMPO’s annual Traffic Count Programs
(conducted during non-winter months). Additionally, there
are a few number of VTrans (Vermont Agency of
Transporation) counts referenced in the database (such as
EJCT-02, Essex Junction 5-corners in 2005). This
database serves as the underlying structure
running CCMPO’s online traffic count data
distribution system (see Online Linkage above).

Purpose:

This data represents the status of traffic occurrence
on any particular intersection assigned a "Traffic Count
Station". It is used for traffic impact studies, scoping study
alternatives, and warrant analysis. The data is also used
to check
the accuracy of the CCMPO Regional Travel-Demand
Model…

CCMPO Annual Traffic Count Program, 1993-2006.
It is likely that Joe Segale of CCMPO began to compile the
locations of the intersection traffic count stations
sometime in the late 1990′s. CCMPO personnel
subsequently coordinating work on the database include -
Dave Roberts, Senior Transportation Planner (2000-2002),
Daryl Benoit, Transportation Planner (2002-2006).
Transportation Technicians and Interns included – Peter
Burch (2001), Casey Garvey (2000-2002), Jason S. Sobel

LOS ~
A forthcoming key statistical indicator for intersection
turning movement counts (yet to be added to this
database)
is known as the "Level of Service" (or LOS). LOS has
been
developed as a system of indicating delay at signalized
intersections. It is graded on a letter scale from A to F,
generally (outlined by the "Highway Capacity Manual",
10 sec, B = 10-20 sec, C = 20-35 sec, D = 35-55 sec,
55-80 sec, F > 80sec. Primary sources of LOS data have
been Corridor and Traffic Impact studies. LOS data will be added to this
database in time, though it has not been a priority of those
making data requests from CCMPO…
Historical LOS from prior studies is available for viewing,
but has
been left out of this database because of the age of the
data, or
and due to the fact that CCMPO did not calculate the LOS
in-house.
Requests for this data may be made nevertheless by
contacting
CCMPO.

Logical_Consistency_Report:

This database consists of data retrieved and processed
from Intersection Count units and tally sheets utilised during
CCMPO’s annual Traffic Count Program (conducted during non-winter months).
It is expected that the database will be updated at least annually until either
fixed-roadway transportation systems or digital database
technology are rendered obsolete.

Completeness_Report: Counts are not collected for each location every year.
