2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP)

Below are the most recent documents related to the 2035 MTP currently in development.

2035 MTP Delayed

The 2035 MTP development schedule has been delayed to better coordinate the MTP with the recently awarded HUD Regional Sustainability Grant to the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC). This Sustainability Plan needs to coordinate planning around economic development, housing, transportation, and other areas, and is scheduled for completion in 2013. In order to provide timely input on transportation issues to the Sustainability Plan, and better synchronize regional comprehensive planning, we are postponing the completion schedule for the MTP from June 2010 to early 2013 (New MTP schedule forthcoming). For more information on the Regional Sustainability Plan and its development schedule, see: http://www.ecosproject.com/.

2035 MTP Update: July 2010

This project began late in 2008 with scenario planning workshops where interested Chittenden County residents collaborated to devise several land development futures and the types of transportation strategies they felt needed to accommodate that future growth and development. These scenarios were later complemented by others developed by CCMPO and CCRPC staff that considered historical trends and another featuring a radical departure from recent history. After closely looking at these scenarios, staff reduced the number to three and began a process to receive public feedback on which of these future scenarios the public felt most desirable. Survey results reflecting that public feedback can be found here (Click).

The scenarios look 50 years into the future. The MTP developed from these scenarios however will take a 25 year view, identifying the transportation projects and strategies, and the financial resources required to implement them.

Staff will be completing remaining sections of the MTP (the first three draft chapters and the financial plan are available for public review – See below) over the next two years following extensive public and local government consultations. For an overview of chapter contents, Click here for the Draft MTP Outline.

This project is overseen by an advisory committee of local, regional, and state interests. Here is the MTP Advisory Committee roster:
