RESCHEDULED – Exit 16 DDI Construction Public Meeting

Thursday, January 12, 2023
6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Zoom and 830 Main Street, Colchester, VT

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) invites you to attend the rescheduled Construction Public Meeting for the Exit 16 Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) Project. The Exit 16 DDI project includes improvements to the US Routes 2/7 corridor, in the vicinity of I-89 Exit 16, to enhance mobility and safety in Colchester, Vermont. The core of the project is to reconfigure the existing tight diamond interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at I-89 Exit 16.

The initial contract for the Exit 16 DDI project was awarded to S.D. Ireland Brothers Corp. and was anticipated to begin over the fall; however, the start of construction was postponed due to the contractor’s assignment to an emergency culvert replacement project in Richmond, VT which required staff and other resources to be redirected to that effort. With the emergency culvert project substantially complete, staff and resources can be reallocated to the Exit 16 DDI project. Construction on the initial construction of the Exit 16 DDI project is slated to begin as early as the last week of January 2023. The initial contract includes ledge removal requiring blasting, the construction of retaining walls, utility relocation, waterline replacements, and telecom duct bank installation.

The Construction Public Meeting will include a presentation comprised of a project overview, construction schedule and sequencing, the anticipated impacts, and information about future blasting activities. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to ask questions of the project team, the contractor, S.D. Ireland Brothers Corp., and the blasting subcontractor, Maine Drilling & Blasting.
