The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) in partnership with the Town of Colchester and Hoyle Tanner & Associates, is studying how to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity along East Lakeshore Drive between Bayside Park and South Bay Circle.
Currently, this section of roadway has limited pedestrian facilities to accommodate connections to nearby destinations like Bayside Park, the Colchester Recreation Center, and residential neighborhoods. This project is the first step in exploring solutions and setting the stage for future funding and construction of a potential pedestrian facility.
The study will consist of the following:
- Review existing conditions and community needs.
- Develop up to two design alternatives, plus a “no build” option.
- Assess impacts such as right-of-way, utilities, stormwater, and natural resources.
- Estimate construction costs.
- Gather community input through public meetings.
- Recommend a preferred alternative for future development.

Later, an Alternatives Presentation Meeting will showcase the proposed options and help guide the selection of the preferred alternative.
